According to its Statute, the CISS is engaged in the following activities :

• ensure all scientific, technical and organizational support to the Pontifical Custodian of the Shroud;

• spread knowledge of the Shroud and everything related to it;

• coordinate and promote studies and activities at national and international level dissemination of information relating to the Shroud, ensuring its connection with the Custody and the Property;

• collect and conserve everything concerning the Shroud;

• exercise the scientific direction of the Shroud Museum;

• preserve, increase and enhance the collections of the Museum and the Library of the Shroud.
